Moscow City

Moscow is the capital of Russia and the country’s principal political, economic, financial, educational, and transportation center, located on the Moskva River. It is the most populous city in Europe. The city is in the Central Federal District located in the western part of the Russian Federation. Historically, its position was central in the Russian homeland. It was the capital of the former Soviet Union, and Muscovite Russia, the pre-Imperial Russian state. It is the site of the famous Kremlin, which now serves as the ceremonial residence of the President.

In the period of conference (end of spring – beginning of summer) the weather in Moscow is very comfortable. It is mostly sunny with chance of showers; the middle day temperature is 18-22 °C.

Moscow State University

M.V. Lomonosov Moscow State University is the largest and arguably the oldest university in Russia, founded in 1755. The university was established on the instigation of Ivan Shuvalov and Mikhail Lomonosov by a decree of Russian Empress Elizabeth dated January 25 (January 12 old style), 1755. Originally, the university included three departments – of philosophy, medicine, and law. Now it has 39 departments and 15 research centers.

Moscow State University Campus

Since 1953 most of the departments are situated on Sparrow Hills, in the southwest of Moscow. The Main building was designed by architect Lev Rudnev. In the post-war era, Stalin ordered seven huge tiered neoclassic towers built around the city. The MSU Main building was by far the largest. It was also the tallest building in the world outside of New York City at that time, and it remained the tallest building in Europe until 1988. The central tower being 240m and 36-stories high, was flanked by four huge wings of student and faculty accommodations.

City views

Moscow city is beautiful at night. The illuminated architecture of the buildings are gourgeous when starting dark. At midnight the city is a brilliant grid of light that includes the gilded dome of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, the Stalinist horror of the Ukraine Hotel, and a dark loop of the Moscow River. You will have a chance to see this place by yourself.
